Fever Pitch in Adelaide

The stars are still out as we set off from Coober Pedy. The night sky in the Southern hemisphere is captivating and never ceases to enthrall, even in my sleepy state, but I'm soon snoozing again on the bus. I swear it's only 5 mins later, when Cat Steven's 'Morning Has Broken' comes over the speakers rousing us from our slumber to a gorgeous dawn breaking over the desert. The sun climbs high in the sky and it's roasting hot when we stumble off the coach at our next stop, but it's not the toilet stop we were expecting.
Stretching out before is a frozen lake. No. Wait. Rewind. This is Australia. It's summer. It's the desert and 50C. It's not frozen, it's a salt lake. Crispy white. Down the track to the lake we spot the rusty remnants of Ozbus 19's last minibus. I thought they'd gone quiet.
A quick lunch stop in Port Augusta for the best steak sandwich since Daly Waters and we're on to Adelaide and the cricket. Well, as close to the cricket as we'll get this trip as we pass in front of the ground on our way to our hostel.
Tonight, David and Helen will be jumping off the bus to join relatives there for a while before continuing their travels around Asia. A big party is planned but I am running a fever hotter than the desert itself and am gutted to have to give it a miss. They have been a big part of my bus life and I will miss them both.

    What Vicki Did..

After 25 years of corporate travel in international sales and marketing, Vicki decided to chuck in her job and swapped 5 star hotels for budget hostels, tents and  a sleeping bag as she travelled the world. She's never had so much fun.
